The solution to resolving the inequities of Australia's "power block" is quite simple. It is not about money, it is about power - power through control of the media.
An act of parliament could force the Murdoch/Packer duopoly to divest out of many of their media assets and allow new independent players to provide alternative perspectives to those currently tightly controlled.
The major parties are not going to allow this to happen as "career" politicians both "up and coming" and established in the major parties are protected by their media "mates" as long as they play ball. For divestment to be enacted requires new players in federal parliament. The manner in which the mainstream media have dealt with Pauline Hanson's One Nation clearly demonstrates that the media barons recognise this threat.
New blood representing the Australian people not the elites is required through new political parties. The only way that this can happen is by educating the Australian people as to what is actually happening in this country. Once we have done that and new players hold the balance of power only then will media divestment become a reality.
